Portrait Artist of the Year Heat

So this week the episode of my heat finally aired on Sky Arts. It's been a long 9 months of keeping it all a secret, by which time I'd forgotten a lot of what had already seemed like a blur!

It was great fun reliving it all and being able to share the experience with family and friends, who've shown incredible support in the build up to the show and beyond. I'd like to think I didn't disappoint - seemed to come across well (big thanks to the production team!) and everyone was impressed with the work I produced, largely due to my incredible sitter Mr Dave Myers. I've been a fan of his for many years and I'm pleased to report he's exactly how he comes across on the tele - kind, funny, and humble. For him to take home my portrait was a real privelege; a silver lining to the slight disappointment at not getting through to the next round.

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the day, not just from a painting perspective but also experiencing the inner workings of the show, meeting the production team, the judges, presenters, and fellow artists. A hugely rewarding and interesting experience which I'd recommend to any aspiring artist.

The reaction since the show aired has been fantastic - I've received a lot of love on social media and already taken on plenty of commissions, including a portrait of a Dave Myers lookalike! Things have gone a bit mental but I'm certainly not complaining. A lot of people have asked about available work so I'll aim to list all that as soon as possible. Watch this space! x
